OFFICE MEMO Re: Sabra Date:1/25/94
The Sabra was indeed from Israel, assembled by Autocars Ltd. of Haifa from
parts from Reliant of England, hence possibly allowable as an LBC, since there
probably isn't a list for Israeli cars. ;-)
Reliant Sabre fiberglass body (by Ashley Laminates), ladder frame chassis (by
Lesley Bellamy), Ford Consul 1703cc engine, 4spd. fully synchro ZF gearbox, 90
mph top speed, didn't sell when up against the MGB and TR4.
The front end looks a little like an E-type with the tailfins from a 57 Chevy
hung on for front bumpers.
Total production: 100 complete Sabras, 50 kits for Israel, plus 58 sold as
Reliant Sabres.
Apparently a few Sabra kits sat in an Israeli customs warehouse until the
1980's before being auctioned off.
