I would try simple green and one of those wire brushes with the tuffs at the
tip. You can clean the middle then bend it and clean the edges. I expect to
have to go through this with my PL700s when the outside paint goes on the TR3.
Chris, you are right, my OD problems are back. I will play with the external
stuff, clean the screen and top off the fluid this weekend :*( There is
probably only 25Kish miles on the OD since it was rebuilt. Everything works
fine when in 4rd & 4th and the overdrive is on. Overdrive only kicks in at the
proper gears, but there seems to be that free wheeling (no compression when you
let off the gas, like 50's American overdrives) that starts 15 or so minutes
after I start driving. I'm hearing a wherring sound that I think is in the OD,
and I experienced a brief bit of clutch shudder while going slow in second.
Does anyone know if I can remove the OD from the transmission for rebuilding
without removing the engine and transmission???? I really do not want to pull
the engine and trans. If I do this I know I'll end up repainting the inside of
the engine compartment. I know this means a new rack & pinion unit, new springs
& bushings, & antisway bar. I want to reassemble the TR3.
Arg!
