Hi
regarding the hard-to-remove steering wheels...
I have found that when they finally come off, the part that gets
munged up is the hub of the wheel itself rather than the column
part of the spined connnection. I regard this to be a major pain
as replacement wheels are hard to come by (at least for me). It
probably can't be fixed as the spline ridges get sheared off. When
looking for another one, note that there are many different spline/nut
combinations over the years and some, like my 68-69, are not supported
by aftermarket vendors. I found it to be a good time to replace the
whole column. I'd use brute force only after giving a good try with
penetrating oil.
