The pros and cons seem to be :
For a newsgroup :
Apparent ease of reading w.r.t. mail - As several people have pointed
out, getting a decent mail program will sort this out. This covers
points such as subject threading, subject deletion etc.
For a listserver :
Resposible use by all involved, high signal to noise, a feeling of
'camaraderie' that doesnt exist in any of the newsgroups that I have
ever subscribed to.
Everybody here can receive mail, some have not got access to newsnet.
It would be a shame if people had to give up participation for this
reason.
Nobody tries to sell me their Buick. Whilst I personally am slightly
ambivilent about the 'for sale' postings that do go on, I have a decent
mail program - elm - and can easily delete them if I want. Other people
like them and thats fine by me !
All in all I would MUCH RATHER keep this listserver as it is. In short
thats a big NO to a newsgroup.
