On the subject of rustproofing. A few years ago I knew folks who
swore by the fogging oil method. In auto and also marine stores,
they sell spray oil for preserving metal parts. You spray it on,
wait and it hardens into a protective coating. I use it on cranks,
cams, brake rotors and the like. It does leave a real tough coating
which requires solvent to remove. If you are going to store an
engine for a while, this stuff is real handy to spray into the
cylinders for protection.
The folks I knew, would buy this stuff and spray it in every fender
well and crevice on the car they could reach. They would reaaply it
to the underside of the car annually.
