Since getting back online, I've read several of the past brit-cars
deigests and noted the lack of confidence as to the color of
the brake/clutch fluid reservoir on the TR-3. Well here's what
I can offer: My 1961 TR-3A is a totally original car (54K miles)
and we are the second owners. The car has never been repainted,
restored in any way (except for seat covers). The brake/clutch
fluid reservoir is painted black. In fact, I have removed
such reservoirs from other TR-3s and I've never seen one that
wasn't painted black. I've seen them with most of the paint
missing, but I've never seen them totally unpainted.
I always enjoy showing our car, because it gets so much attention
from folks looking to see where this or that goes, what is
or isn;t painted, etc. We rarely win a trophy because the car
isn't perfect when compared to the many excellent restorations, but
in a lineup of several TR-3s, our car is always being photographed
or examened for details while the "trophy winners" get admired, but
are not always looked up to as being the last word on originality.
One thing I plan to do is videotape the entire car to "document"
things as best I can before it becomes necessary to rebuild some
parts, systems, etc.
