I need some advice regarding suspension modifications to MGB`s. I have
been told by a fellow who runs an MG shop and also races an MGB that for the
street, the OEM type dampers should be left in place, and that the tube shock
and coil over spring conversions are bad news. Is this really the case? I was
thinking of replacing the rear dampers with tube shocks, lowering the rear end
with a lowering kit and/or possibly different leafs, and lowering the front
with different springs, installing the stiffer Armstrong valve units in the
front dampers, and installing a 7/8" torsion bar in the front. All of this,
of course, after a thorough suspension overhaul, including urethane or nylon
bushings. I am shooting for a car that has a pretty low ride height, and
balanced (not much tail happiness) handling.
Any opinions/criticisms are more than welcome. Thanks.
