I'm racing the snows here in New Hampshire trying to get the garage set up
for winter rebuilds. I'm upgrading some major tools as part of this, and
the next thing to deal with is replacing the African Queen.
The African Queen is my 20 year old 1HP Sears air compressor. The tank is
rusted, so it leaks air, and it blows 20 AMP circuit breakers. And when
it's running, it sounds like, well... :-)
I'd like to get a 1.5 HP direct drive compressor which can run medium duty
air tools like impact wrenches. (I already have a monster electric impact
wrench which is the Weapon Of Choice for crank pulley nuts.) The compressor
has to be able to run on a 120 volt 15 AMP circuit without tripping the
breaker. The prime candidate is the Campbell-Hausfeld Professional 1.5 HP
dual hot-dog tank unit. This is a contractor model which claims to consume
only 13.5 amps.
Is there anyone out there who has one of these who can verify that it can
in fact live happily on a 15 AMP circuit? Any recommendations for other
models of medium duty compressors?
