With all the talk about the history of various British motors
I thought I'd add a tit bit of information I was told by a
Jensen enthusiast a little while ago. According to him, the
Rover V8 is based on a Buick motor (as we all know) with some
of the parts being interchangable. The interesting bit is
that the Buick motor was originally designed in Germany by
Porsche for BMW (or vice versa) but never used.
In the mid seventies an extremely ugly car known as the Leyland P76
entered the Australian market in an attempt to compete with the
Ford, Holden (GM) and Crysler heavyweights. After dabbling with
a four cylinder motor (??) Leyland installed a local version of the
Rover V8 in 4.2 litre form. I think it had a longer stroke ??
Anyway - it could fit a 44 gallon drum in the boot.
