It's funny that this subject would come up about now. Honda has
recently presented some of its engine tricks to the public regarding
its "old" V-12 F1 engine. I guess they have moved onto other things
so these ideas that were implemented during the 92 season are not
considered Top Secret any more. The Honda V-12 was very powerful
outputting 764 Hp at 14,400 rpms and peak torque was 297 lb-ft.
These outputs were obtained using regular pump gas .... not
the witches brew ("rocket fuel") blends that are now banned but were
used mostly for qualifying.
Many of the tricks presented in the paper are not very earth
shattering except the way Honda engineers wanted to reduce internal engine
friction. The powerplant used five separate scavenge pumps to reduce
aeration and to reduce the volume of the oil required. To reduce
internal friction the oil pressure was set to very low levels. Honda also
reduced the crankcase pressure to 4.4 psia. Yes Absolute! The engine
output rose 15Hp's. What this means is that the V-12 crankcase is at
10.3 psi BELOW atmosphere. Now that is low oil pressure.

Unfortunately many of these "tricks" can't be used on my TR-6. I don't
think that old tractor engine could live at 4.4psia.

Before anyone says: Where is the LBC content here!
Honda will be supplying engines for Lotus in 94. So I've read!
