A fellow TR7 V8 owner was having an intermitent fuse blowing problem.
I appeared, bearing Fluke multimeter, and found out that when the engine
was stopped the ignition current was 1 amp (fuel pump) and when the engine
started up, there was a dead short! Arrghh!
Various tests confirmed that the alternator was OK; the culprit seemed to
be the fuel pump after the engine had started?
The PO had wired the fuel pump to the nearest ignition connection which
happened to be the choke light feed. This electrical connection, whilst OK,
was unshielded. And guess what? The choke knob holder was loose!
Thinks! If the short occurs immediately after engine start up - that is
probably when the choke is pulled!
A quick tighten and bit of insulation tape later and all is OK.
Phew!
