Another possibility is an old flexible hose. Last summer, the flexible
hose leading to my rear brakes failed after 25 years of service, proving
that British cars are unreliable. I'm sure Eye-talian cars hoses last for
50 years or more, but I digress. Basically, the hose gets mushy and
collapses. While you can force brake fluid through and apply braking
action, the fluid can't get back through the hose and thus perpetually
applies Mr. Stop when you want to go.
Classic problem on Sprite rear brakes.
