"Rear sway bars were fitted as standard on 1977-'80 cars, and have proven to
be beneficial on earlier rubber-bumpered cars, especially when the ride
height is lowered. On Chrome-bumpered cars, however, rear sway bars have
proved to be of no benefit; they tend to bring on severe oversteer when
cornering hard, and control of the car can be easily lost."
Also on the same page:
subject is front sway bars..
"1. Increasing the bar diameter will progressivly reduce body roll and under-
steer tendencies. Too strong a bar will again allow understeer to develop,
and increase suspension harshness. This creates a car which will not cope
smoothly with bumps in the road surface and makes it feel very twitchy.
2. Larger tyres and wheels may allow a larger bar to be used, due to increase
in unsprung weight"
