First guess would be a bad ignition amplifier. Fuel problems typically
stutter and stumble before they die totally, and don't restart right off
after fixing themselves (gotta fill the carb back up). If you're brave
enough to drive the car again, here's some things to look for.
 
When it dies, look at the tach. This means just as soon as it quits making
power; clutch is out, in gear, key on. IF the tach says zero, you have a
primary ignition problem. If the tach is still reading in the right range,
you have either a fuel, or secondary ignition problem. 
 
If it does turn out to not be the ignition, try openning the fuel filler
cap when it dies. Sptifires are known for gumming up the tank vent
restrictors.
