whilst in London yesterday I picked up an issue of Classic Cars
(Wonderful rag!) and it apparently has a monthly table of prices for
cars, divided up into A, B and C condition. A is "Excellent all
round, but not necessarily a concours winner." B is "sound and can be
used immediately but could benefit from cosmetic attention". C is
"not just a box of bits, but complete cars that run, although they may
need major restoration"
With that in mind, let me transcribe what they have to say about
spridgets:
Model Yr A B C
----------------------------------------------------
A-H Sprite Mk1 58-61 7000 4500 2250
A-H Sprite MkII/III 61-66 4000 2500 1500
A-H Sprite MkIV 66-71 4500 3000 2000
MG Midget Mk I/II 61-66 4000 2500 1500
MG Midget Mk III/IV 66-74 4500 3000 2000
MG Midget 1500 74-79 4250 2000 750
Note: these prices are in POUNDS! I.E. A clean, excellent bugeye
will fetch (according to this) about $13000 in England! Goodness.
(Current exchange rate is about $1.85 == #1.00)
Just for information, here's a few more:
AC Cobra 289 V8 62-68 125000 90000 70000 (!)
Bentley Mk VI 46-51 20000 12500 6500 (I was glad to see this)
Jaguar E-type 3.8 roadster 30000 20000 10000
Land-Rover S1 48-58 2000 1250 450
Land-Rover SII/IIA 58-71 2500 1750 650
Lotus Seven S1 57-61 12500 10000 5000
Lotus Elan Spring dhc 71-73 15000 11500 7500
Lotus Europa SII 68-71 5500 4750 3000
MGB Roadster 62-74 8000 5000 3000 (!)
Triumph TR3/3A 55-61 12000 8000 4500
Triumph TR6 68-76 9500 5500 2000
(I tried to pick out cars "interesting" to net.folks. If your
favourite LBC isn't here, send me mail and I'll tell you what these
chaps say it may be worth.)
I'm not sure what relation these numbers bear to reality or to the
value in the U.S., but it's interesting to think that my scruffy TR-6
may be worth nearly $18,000 if I get it all pretty!
I'm going to show these figures to my wife when I get home tonight....
