\The Series 2 Esprit use all Smith's gauges (white letters on black, and from
\your description, Phil, maybe THE same gauges exactly).
Hmm. The needles point down and the windows are the shape shown in my ASCII
masterpieces :-)
Smiths
<- This part is all black with just the Smiths
Temp name and the type of gauge
____________
/ \
/ \ <- This truncated pie-piece is cut out of the face.
The recessed surface is black with white
markings. The needle, of course, runs between
the two levels.
\In the Esprit, the Voltage stabilizer is
\mounted on the back of the Temp gauge.
If it was, it is gone now. The incredible rewire job on this car means that I
can't tell what is what anymore. I may have to start over. Does anyone know
if you can get catalogs and spec. sheets right from Smiths? One would expect
that there is a "required voltage" spec. for temp and fuel gauges. Heck, maybe
for the oil-pressure gauge, too. I agree with Roger that it would be pretty
silly to hook a voltage regulator to the voltage meter :-)
I must admit that the "opposing movement" gauges would be more accurate,
stable, and immune to voltage fluctuations.
\BTW: I believe If any of your gauges are broke you should be able to order
\them from places like R.D. Enterprises
The one in PA, not the one in CA, I assume.
\the Esprit uses a voltmeter (not an ammeter) in case you'd like to convert and
\replace that SW ammeter.
That is exactly what I want to do. I wonder if you can get out your dental
mirror and see it your gauges have the same little white stickers on the back?
If the numbers of the oil, temp, and fuel match mine, then the number of the
voltmeter would be just what I want.
