There are a few things you need to do before using the blue silicone gasket
material.  Both sirfaces need to be clean and oil free as possible.

You want to put the sealer on one side and let it set up for 15 - 20 minutes.
Then put the parts together.  When you lay a bead down, realize that it will 
form a tight thin 'gasket'.  Most people put it on too thick.  You should 
also put it twords the outside of the sealing surface.

Mechanics on the clock are the wrong people to be using this stuff.
Properly used, it does not leak in oil nor break off into little pices.
