A friend of mine has strange problem with his 1275 A series engine.
He had the engine rebuild almost 3000 miles ago yet there is still a
great deal of pressure building up in the crankcase. He has a empty
oil can hooked up as an oil overflow and yesterday we took a 90 miles drive
and we found almost 1 quart of oil in the overflow.
I am guessing that the rings have never seated properly and there is a great
deal of blowby, but after 3000 miles I would have expected the rings
to seal. I know recently there was a thread about using Castrol in a newly
rebuilt engine and how this does not allow the rings to seat properly.
(althougth I have never had that experience).
Anybody have a clue what's going on and how to solve it ?)
BTW the oil in the catch tank is VERY black - indicating to me that a lot
of the by-products of combustion is entering the oil.
