My '86 Mazda 323 has finally bought the farm (cheers in background).
I've been using my Spitfire as a daily driver for the last month
or so since the Mazda's demise. It's been a LOT of fun using the
Spit every day, but it's finally getting cold in Florida so I can't
drive with top down anymore, and I really need a back seat for the
kids, so... it's time to get some new transportation.
Top two contenders, must be ~$6K at the most:
- used Jag XJ6
- late '60s Mustang drop-head coupe :-)
Not much in Gainesville, either Jag or Stang. So I'm headed off to
Orlando Saturday to check out a dozen supposedly prime specimens.
Before I leave I thought I'd ask a couple Jag-related questions.
- the XJ6s I've seen so far had relatively ratty leather upholstery.
Can I get a "kit" via mail order and do it myself, or do I need to
have it done at a shop? Cost guesstimates for new seats?
[WARNING: those whose sensibilities are easily offended might
consider not reading the next question]
- anybody have any experience with Chevy-engined Jags? The car that
sounds the best over the phone is a '76 XJ6L with a 'Vette 350cid
engine, owner claims is garaged, body perfect, seats a little worn
$4800 obo. Oh, the conversion was professionally done, using the
John's Cars kit, by a restoration shop in Orlando.
Thanks in advance,
Eric
