Vendor list update

To: british-cars@hoosier.cs.utah.edu
Subject: Vendor list update
From: phile@pwcs.stpaul.gov (Philip J Ethier)
Date: Tue, 5 Jan 93 15:05:20 CST
I asked that you all look over the vendor list and make corrections and add
vendors. Chris Kent Kantarjiev took me very seriously :-) He has put a lot of
work into it. I have modified my vendor lists accordingly. I have not sent
out any new list today yet. When I respond to the requests I have today, the
lists I send will contain these changes.

Here, in alphabetical order, are the entries as added or modified based on
Chris' comments. To update your old list, just paste each entry right over the
old entry, as all pertinent date has been repeated.

the quality wasn't good enough. - Chris Kent Kantarjiev <cak@parc.xerox.com>

Lotus parts

Someone asked for comments about Dave Bean Engineering. I have been
getting my parts from them for 3 years. They are, in my experience, a
good reliable source. The thing I like most is that they are happy to
spend time on the phone answering questions. If I am not sure what parts
I need to complete a job they will go over the drawings in their catalog
with me to help me make decisions. It helps that I have/had a Europa. In
short, I am very happy with them. -mikej@wv.mentorg.com
They send a big catalog that is mainly elan/plus2/Cortina stuff, but also
contains Europa stuff. A second (much smaller) catalog is purely Europa.
They also send a price list. - Mark Reichert, markr@eye.com
When it comes to Lotus, they are knowledgeable and helpful. I
deal with them only by phone due to the distance between us.
Dave Bean does a lot of Weber business, and claims in their catalogs to
be more than just a parts house. - ?

Dave Bean also has an "English Ford Racer's Catalog" that has lots of
ancillaries that are useful for those of us running more mundane cars.
In particular, a very helpful section on plumbing fittings and pipes
and hoses, and lots of generic Girling-related brake parts.

This is the address to write for a production trace of your Triumph or MG (as
well as most of the other marques that have gone out of production). I think
the current cost is $40 per car.

As far as I know, these folks don't have a huge stock of parts any
more; the yard is gone. They're just a broker with a phone. I don't
think they do rebuilding any more, either.

seems to be the original manufacturer, or at least their prices are
consistently less than the other folks that sell them (including Vicky Brit and
TRF). Good quality, nice for the garage.

This guy carries the same sort of stuff that Ken Gillanders does (i.e.,
current performance parts imported from Britain), but for Healeys and
MGs, too. I've only talked to him at shows, and don't know how much I
trust him: he's too quick to say "I developed" when it's clear that
he's just reselling something made in Britain (since other people are
selling it, too). But he might have what you need.

For Healeys: Engine rebuild services, short blocks, engine parts, high
performance parts, clutch & brake parts, Webers, SU parts, air cleaners,
headers, oil coolers, roll bars.
Their catalogue has pictures of linkages, exploded views of
carbs etc. I remember seeing those ball-end type linkages
in their catalogue.
(This is largely an SCCA production-car place. Lots of go-fast goodies. Don't
buy their swaybars, they are ADDCO, which are cheaper at J. C. Whitney
-Phil Ethier)
Race parts for British cars. Decent selection and price, occasional
sales. Much of what they sell is just resale of Addco, Monza, etc.

Performance Engineering
3831 Main Street Suite 108
Springfield, OR 97477
(503) 746-9714

This is a one to two person shop (depending on whether Mark can keep an
employee) that is trying to do modern engineering for Triumphs and MGs.
They do some custom work, some in-house development, and some sourcing of newly
developed parts from Britain. They're very hot on Carsan as a material for
bushings, and have decent prices on a lot of parts that the "big guys" resell
for more. Reaching them is a trick -- usually you have to leave a message on
the answering machine and hope they call back.

Lots of little fasteners and bits. Mostly oriented towards American classic

Also American express is about the easiest way to pay. There are many many
Spitfire parts dealers in the TSSC mag, though Rimmer Brothers is probably the

This is where I bought my 1st TR. They sell & service all kinds of
British cars. You can also mail order parts from them. Their prices are very
reasonable. (ie 164 dollars for a TR-6 carpet set.) I'm pretty pleased with
them. - Bob Bownes
(Bob told me about these guys, Jeff and Terry, although he referred to it as
"The TR Store". I called them about Spridget bodies once. - Phil Ethier)
