Well, yes, virginia, the GT6 motor will fit in the Spit.

The suspension is a little weak, the brakes are a little weak, and
the differential and Spit rear axles won't last very long. Common racing
behavior in Spits is to go to GT6 front brakes, axles, and diff since
a breathed on Spit engine will snap axles, and more brakes are always better.

And if you're going to go to all that trouble, put in the 2.5L
TR-6 engine, the 2[4,6,8]0Z rear end, full roll cage, and pretend you're a
Group 44 GT-6 running GTU. I recall VTR '88 in Dallas a GT-6 with TR-6 engine,
triple side draft Webers, and 2nd hood bulge to cover them being VERY fast
at the autocross....Mjb, chris kent, John, & I saw a very nice Spit 6 in
Kentucky last summer too. Could barely tell from the outside. I'd bet you'd
notice the difference from the driver's seat though. And the 6" wide rims
on the back kinda gave it away.

But the question posed was a more philisophical one. Why isn't is done,
and why is it spoken of in hushed tones. My basic feeling is that you may
be creating a car with better performance than the original designers thought
about/intended, (cue the God Save The Queen music in the background) you are
violating the sacred trust to carry on regardless in the fashion and
tradition of the finest british coachbuilders.

But it sure would be fun to drive!
