Scott's Lotus Cortina story reminds me very much of my own car. I think
I've finally figured out what I bought two+ years ago - it's either an
actual former race car or a horrible attempt at a wannabee. Datsun
roadster owners who want to go racing have a lovely array of factory
TRS available. My former owner didn't quite get it. He got the
factory dual sidedraft manifold - and put Webers on it instead of the
proper Mikuni-Solexes. He ground the stock cam instead of buying one
of the *two* available factory racing cams. Now, what kind of suspension
do you suppose I actually have? I've always assumed that it was the
factory competition springs and shocks, but now I wonder....
I still don't know why the shimmed rod bearings or the loose screws
in the timing chain guides, but I'm coming to suspect a cheap attempt
to unload a car. On the other hand, the head has never been milled
much, the block and crank were in good shape - I just don't get it.
