I'll add my two cents about the fraility of the breed's water pumps.
When we took Grandfather ('73 B with 22,000 original miles) to the
shop for a pre-season check over, I expected that the brake system
would be due for a complete flush out if not rebuild.  The shop
pronounced the brakes sound but said that the water pump "exploded"
in a gush of fluid when they went to restart the car!  Shades of
Monty Python and the exploding animal sketch.
