Camshafts

I am in the proces of assembling an MGB engine. I have a camshaft that I
ordered from BPD, and before I installed it I wanted to compare it to the
original cam. The new one is supposed to be a "good street cam" (according
to Bob at BPD). It is apparently a "Leyland special tuning 714 cam".

Anyway - I just sat it alongside my original shaft (camshaft) and lined up
the keys and had a look. I cannot for the life of me notice any difference,
except that the new one is reground so the lobes are smaller. All the lobes
line up the same as before, the radii seem about the same - and I can`t
measure any changes in lift. Overlap is kinda hard to judge.

Does anyone know if I should be able to tell (visually) if there is a
difference between 2 cams? I'd really like to know that I have what I
want before I slide it in for good.

Thanks,
Rob

Oh - I am definately going to head down to the field meet in Portland over
labour day. Can anyone recommend a B&B or nice (Cheap) hotel that is somewhere
near but not necessarily in Portland?

Thanks again.
