Steve,

I haven't pursued the vibration problem much since Boulder. The
car is only used for occasional driving and the vibration isn't
severe, it's just an annoying feeling at around 60-65mph.

I talked to Ted Schomacher of TS Enterprises this weekend (Ted was at
the Limerock Vintage Races) and he suggested a means to isolate the
problem would be to disconnect the driveshaft and then push/tow
the car at that speed and see if there is still a vibration. No
vibration and it's likely the driveshaft; if the vibration is still
present, it's in the rear or the axels/wheel bearings. (Note,
the driveshaft would have to be tied in place and the engine would,
of course, not be running.

Ted can modify the driveshaft to install real U-joints instead of
the rubber affair it comes with. Cost of that is $250.

I'll post this to the british-cars list also, and I'll post any
follow-up when I do something with the '8'. At the moment I'm
helping my son do a new head gasket on his '81 TR-7. We now
have the head off the car and I'm dropping it off to be
checked for straightness and have the valve seats checked.
Removing TR-7 head studs is sure fun, but that's another posting.

Thanks for the info on the dash cover, you're right when you
suspect that neither PEP Boys or the other chain you mentioned
is in the northeast area.
