I would have sent this directly to Mark, but I am afraid that
I was unable to decrypt his mailpath.

What am I looking for for the cortina?

The first thing that I would like to find is headers that
are better than stock. The second thing is just advice.
What have people discovered to work or not when racing
Cortinas.
Other than that, I am looking for 'trick bits' in general.
I have actually done very little so far to the car. to give you
an Idea of what I am allowed to do,
I will summarize the do's and don'ts of Improved Touring.

-----------------------------------------------------------

If a change is not specifically allowed, it is illegal.

Updating and backdating of components is only permitted within the same
make, model, type and engine size car. Any up/back dating of components
must be done as a complete assembly.
It is not permitted to "create" a model or type of car by
up/backdating.
Any carb jetting, metering etc. is allowed. The number of carbs
may not be changed. Certain cars may use optional carbs. An adaptor
plate may be used, provided that is all that it does.
Throttle lkinkage may be modified. The choke mechanism may be removed.

The original intake manifold must be used. Except for specified port
matching, no porting or polishing of the manifold is allowed.
Single carb cars may use one of the following optional carbs:
  32 DGV/DGAV/DGEV
  32/36 DGV...
  32/36 DFV ...
  34 DAT/DATR/DATRA
  Holley-Weber 5200

Any fuel pump may be used.
Air cleaners may be removed or replaced.
Smog stuff may be removed.

Any ignition system which utilizes the original distributor for
spark timing and distribution is permitted. Internal distributor
components and cap may be substituted. Any spark plugs and ignition
wires may be used.

Any exhaust header and exhaust system may be used. Exhaust must exit behind
the driver.

Oil pans, pan baffles, scrapers and windage trays, oil pickups lines and
filters are unrestricted. A pressure accumulator/"Accusump" may be fitted.
...
Dry sump systems are prohibited unless fitted as standard equipment.

Engines may be bored over .040" Factory oversize replacement pistons
or their exact equivalent must be used.

Balancing and Blueprinting are permitted. Lightening beyond that needed
for balancing is prohibitted.

Manifold and cylinder heat port matching is permitted. No material
may be removed further than 1 inch from the mounting surface.
Valve guides are unrestricted.
Any clutch assamby may be used, as long as it may be bolted directly to an
unmodified stock flywheel. Balancing of the flywheel/clutch is permitted.
Again, no more lightening than is needed to balance it.

Cooling systems:
Any radiator may be used, provided that it can be mounted
in the original location and requires no modification to the
body or the structure.
Oil coolers may be added or substituted. Location sithin the
bodywork is free.
Cooling fans may be removed or replaced. Electric fans may be fitted.
Thermostats may be modified removed or subtituted with blanking sleeves
or restrictors.

Transmission/final Drive
Any final drive ratio is permitted, provided that it fits in the
stock diff howsing, without modification to the housing.
Any limited slip or locked diff is permitted.

Chassis
Minimum ride is 5" measured at any point along the bottom of
the rocker panel, but not to include welded seams or fasteners.

Any shocks may be used, provided they attach to the original
mounting points. The number and type of schocks must be the same as
stock.
MacPherson strut equipped cars may substitute struts, or use any insert.
Springs of any origin may be used, provided they are of the same number
and type as stock.

Suspension Control
Any anti-roll bar(s) traction bars, panhard rod or watts linkage may be
added or substitued, provided their installation serves no other perpose.
Cars that use the swaybar as a suspension location device may change the
diameter of the bar but cannot move the attachment points.

Suspension Mounting points:
Cars equiped with MacPherson strut suspension may decamber wheels
or adjust the caster
by the use of eccentric bushings at control arm pivot points, by the use of
eccentric bushings at the strut-to -bearing-carrier joint and or by the
use of slotted adjustment plates at the top mounting point.
material may be removed from the top of the strut tower to
facilitate installation of the adjuster plate.

On MacPherson strust equipped cars one stayrod may be fitted between the
upper front strut towers.
bushing material is unrestricted.

Brakes:
Brake pads linings and fluid are unrestricted.
Backing plates and dirt shields may be vetilated or removed.
Ari ducts may be fitted to the brakes, provided that they extend in a
forward direction only and that no changes are made in the bodywork..
Brake lines may be replaced with steel lines or teflon lined braided metal
hose. Brake system circuitry may be revised but no modification
ot he original master cylinder, its locationor
mounting is permitted.
Brake proportioning valves may be used. Provided that they are of

air ducts for the brakes, cooler and radiator.
