    FIA and CAN-AM.

There was very good racing in these two races until someone got a little
carried away in the heat of competition. A Devin SS smacked the wall
between turns 4 and 5 and a CAN-AM Alfa Romeo (?) got turned around 180
and started sheding body parts right after the Dunlop bridge.

i don't think alfa ever campaigned in Can-Am; i'd guess the car was
probably an open Type 33 sports racer, of the type that Alfa campaigned
in the FIA precursor to the current Group C racing classification. i have
a poster of Ronnie Peterson driving an open Type 33 in the rain at Watkins
Glen on my dining room wall; it would be easy to confuse it with a Can-Am
car based on external appearance.
