Larry Schwarcz asked about TR4/6 originality. Mark (mjb) gave a
good reply about the commission number of a TR and what it does and
does not tell you. Additionally, the TR-4/6 also has color and trim
codes on the commission plate of the vehicle. With these codes, you
can tell the original color of the vehicle and the original interior
colors. The codes are two digits (eg. 11 = black).

Another way to check on original color is to look over the entire
vehicle. Very few repaints are done so completely that you can't
find the original paint on the underside of a fender, etc.

Additional Options: The TR-4/6 also had wire wheels as an option,
although the wire wheel option ended with the 71 TR-6. Radios
seem to run the gamut of factory units to a wide range of dealer
installed units. Air Conditioning also became an option with
the TR-250 and TR-6 models.

If you are serious about getting a TR, begin looking now as prices
seem to be escalating. The higher prices are being driven by
overseas buyers, especially on the east and west coasts. TR-6's
in Europe are commanding asking prices upwards of $15,000 to
$20,000. At those prices, you can see the opportunity to purchase
a good TR in the USA for $6000 to $7000, export it overseas for
a few thousand and sell it. Profit on each car can be $5000 or
more and there is apparantly a waiting market both in Europe and
in the Orient.
