Yeah, like Darrel says, I've never been able to get my steering rack
tight enough either. I don't want to go to the aluminuim mounts, anyone
have any hints for getting the sucker tight?
(For those of you that have lost track, this is about TR-4A steering
racks, and is equally applicable to TR250, -5, and -6.)
I just went through this yesterday, and mine isn't tight enought
either. I can see two problems.
One is that the holes in the plates that go underneath the U-bolts
aren't long enough. I realized this after reassembling the second time,
and had lost patience. I'll get it next time.
The other is that you really seem to need to have a compressor tool to
hold the U-bolts in place. The factory manual shows one, TRF's TR250
manual shows another, but neither seems to be available. I may figure
out how to make one from threaded rod stock and go into business.
Anyone have any ideas? mjb, I know you've told me how to do this in the
past, but try as I might, I can't make your directions work...
