the problem with the "P" heads is the exhaust doesn't line up properly (bolt
holes are raised about 3/8") and a custom set of headers will be required. I
don't know how much better the "P" head flows over the stock 75 head but I bet
it is not much better, mind you it is better than the "E7" but that head has
another 20 years of detuning in it. I just don't think it will out perform the
stockers by enough to make it a worth wile swap. If you want a cheap iron head
then go to a Roush 200 head, they flow fairly well out of the box and are
cheaper than the edelbrock aluminum heads.
The trans will stand up to the power the issue is the toque converter, If
you go with much more cam than 270-280 degrees you will need a higher stall
torque converter, guess what no one make one for an FMX. the are plentiful for
an older c4, which is aluminum and weighs about 75# less than the cast iron
truck transmission in the brick.

I would not go to a RPM in take. I would just go with the performer. The
RPM make power from 2500-6500 rpm's. the Performer is for 1500-5500 rpm thats
more in the Bricklins range.
You could go with the RPM if change the cam and the engine could spin 6500
RPMs. A good performance head for dirt cheep are the GT40"P" heads from
96-200? 5.0L explorers but you would have to drill the head bolts and get
GT40"P" specific headers.
I have a 94 Mustang GT Convertible and have been looking at GT40"P" heads
for my car and they will give me a 25-30 HP increase over the stock E7TE
heads.
With a stock comp ratio of 8.0:1, and peak HP at 3800 rpms, I would
rebuild the engine to about a 9.5:1 with cam, intake, carb and head package.
With 350-400 HP They used the FMX trans in the 60's and 70's mustangs so it
might stand up to the HP both current mileage might be a consideration.
