IF you are absolutely sure you don't need to smog the car and If you don't
want to change the trans, you are limited to carb and intake I would suggest
a performer or rpm, and an edelbrock 1406 carb with a ford linkage kit. You
will have to extend the kick down lever as you have now moved the throttle
lever about 2 inches forward. you will have to do this no matter what 4 bbl
carb you use. If you want a bit more you could add a small cam like the
performer cam or one from speedpro with about 270 -280 advertised duration,
any more and you may have drivability problems due to the non performance
nature of the FMX trans. you can add a set of performer rpm heads also if
the money is there but then you will definitely need headers to take
advantage of all the new found flow. the distributor is fine to about 7000
rpm as long as the bushing are still ok and there is not a bunch of wobble
in it.
