The Tremec or Borg Warner T5 and T56 are a five speed manual
and a six speed manual transmission, respectively. All of the
big three use these transmissions. You'll find one or the
other or both in 90's and current Camaros, Mustangs, and Vipers.
While the T56 was never available in 5.0 or 5.8 liter Mustang,
so you won't be able to find one in a junkyard, you can get a T5
that way. You can find T56's in junkyards off of other cars, but
I'm not sure what it would take to match it up.
The bright side is that there are aftermarket Tremec T56's available
for the 5.0/5.8 liter application.

If anyone does do this or has done this, it would be a great
topic for an article in the Brickline. I understand a T56 is
about the best thing you can do for gas mileage in a vintage
mustang, so it follows the same would be true for a Bricklin.
With 2 overdrive gears, how could you go wrong?
