It sounds like an adjustable regulator / filter. The screw cap(s) can be
removed to install a pressure gauge. The knurled knob adjusts the max
pressure out.
There should be an arrow or 'in', 'out' markings to show air flow direction.
It should be placed as far from the compressor as practical to allow
moisture in the feed line to condense and drop into the clear bowl, and
vertical, with the clear bowl down. The compartment behind the driver's seat
would be a good place. It's plumbed between the tank and air distribution
board.
The one on the side of the vacuum pump goes to a vacuum source, with the
bottom connection going to the tank.
