Hank,

This is a very common problem.

>1. Is there any way to clean it?

Yes, several:

   a. Remove the tank, put it some gravel and shake, pour out the gravel
and clean out dust and debree.
   b. Take to a radiator shop, have it chemically cleaned and lined. This
will help prevent rusting in the future.
   c. Clean the best you can (using method 1) then coat the tank yourself
with one of the sealers that is on the market.

Supposedly but so far, no one has coughed up the info. I have seen repro.
tanks for sale at radiator shops. Supposed they come with sending units.
Be careful if you try a used or if you find and aftermarket sending unit.
There is a locating notch in the tank. Several of the AMC sending units
have the mating peg on the wrong side of the sending unit.
