Once more, Hi agaain
The oil filter leak. It is the oil filter seal. I tightened up
the extention to motor bracket holding bolt. Took about 1/4 turn with
the same socket used to take out the oil plug. Leak was the same.
Cleaned things up, got a mirror, got a good light on it, yep the oil was
comming out between the filter and the mount. tried tightening, tried on
off several tiimes, still leaked. I think the engine attachment is cross
threaded. And their may not be enough thread. So I plan to chase the
thread. And I am looking for some 1/4 inch thick rubber to make a big
washer. It sure can leak a gusher. Up to a qauart from the time it takes
to walk around the car after reaching in and starting it, looking at it
with a mirror, walking back and turning it off. Anyone know the actual
threar size. Surely it is metric, dang Bill Sat eve

Have you checked the bolt that holds the filter housing to the block. It
is one large bolt that often works itself loose – you may need to change
that o ring between the block and the filter housing – not the oil filter
or its seal." He confirms what I am now thinking. His remark also
explains the structure. So my next move is the check how tight that bolt
is. I just need to get ready to get dirty again.

Hi again,
In changing the oil in my MGB, it is not the filter seal of the
inverted oil filter that is leaking. Oil is running out directly
undernearth in a 1/4" + dia stream as the engine iddles. I have changed
the oil filter seal to an O-Ring, initally held in the grove with grease.
Last night I was working in the dark with a flash light. I have had the
car up with a jack, I will raise it again and see if I can inspect the
underside of the Oil Filter mount.
Thanks for all suggestions,
I may have to replace the filter mount. I am hopeing a plug has fallen
out, Just crossing my fingers. I don't know the details, but on the
internet a Moss Oil Filter SPIN-ON type INVERTED MOUNT MGB & GT 1970-on
Moss# 950-000 $8.50, is at sales@classicautospares.us . Victoria
Secret's price is $290.00

Hi,
I am attempting to chang the oil in my 72 MGB, I have four quarts
of oil (covered with sawdust) on my concrete driveway, I can't get the
inverted filter to seal, or did I break the mount getting the old filter
off. I first tryde a Phram PF8A Ford filder, thread and seal seamed to
match, but it leaked. Now I have a NAPA Gold Wix 1068. The first time I
tried to install it the seal apparently fell out of the groove before it
contacted. I have tried it several times since. It still is leaking
profusley. Have I busted something, or is it a trick to put the filter
on? Do I need to chase the thread on the car mount? Or do I need to use
a torque wrench? The surface on the seal plate does not look very good.
Should I change out the seal on the filter with and O-Ring? Anybody
tried that? If it that seal that is not working, I think the O-Ring idea
might be good.
