I just rode my bike past, and subsequently test drove a 1992 240SX SE Coupe
in Santa Clara. The people seemed nice.. I don't know them, but I've heard
of people driving several states away for these things, so I thought I
might help them get the word out. (I take no responsibility and make no
claim of any kind regarding reliability!)
Here's what I learned:
All stock except for some after market CD head unit and some alarm. I
didn't see what brands.
Gold with Brown check interior
5 speed
CC, PW, PDL, PM, sliding sunroof
116000 miles, original owner, she's a nice school teacher.
NO ABS, No 4-wheel steering (I don't know if it was available, but I
thought I saw something on the web about that..)
Clear CARFAX report. (I checked.)
They claimed no accidents.
Asking $3800.
Things I noticed:
Clutch is on it's last legs.. Be careful if you test drive.. It might fall
out of the car if you talk too loudly. Trans looked as though it was
leaking, but I think that's common on those cars. Valve cover gasket has
some seepage, but overall the engine compartment was very clean. Rattling
noise at certain RPM, most likely exhaust heat shields. Car seemed to have
good power, but I was afraid to flog it because they put some really scary
"Continental Touring" tires on the thing. I think the tires may be made
out of wood. The heads-up display worked, if you're into that kind of thing.
Body in pretty good shape with a few dents, and there are some paint
scratches on the bumpers.. Interior good except for worn front seats with
fluffy sheepskin covers.
NO headroom because of sunroof. I simply didn't fit without laying the
seat back and opening the sunroof. I'm a mutant, so with the seat upright
I could press my ear to the headliner.
They aren't advertising at all, and it had the beginning of a spider web
between the rear left tire and the ground when saw it, so you might be able
to get them to come down in price.
The owner's husband is Chris, and he can be reached at 408-848-2186.
