What a wonderful experience. As a first time event
co-chair I was blown away by how pleasant it was to
contribute in this roll. Sure there was lots to do but
there were also willing folks at every turn (so to speak)
who would volunteer to take a second work assignment
or what ever else was needed.
I can whole heartily recommend chairing an event to
everyone out there who is just nervous about trying.
You will have a cast of many who will make all the
difficult bits possible and best of all you will have a
great feeling for your contribution. I would however
recommend more than 4 hours of sleep the night
before. ;)
I am certain that I will miss some folks in this list but
here goes just the same:
First and foremost I really need to thank Tony
Tobacco for taking me on as a co-chair and doing all
of the real heavy lifting. As many have already mentioned
Tony's course was fun and challenging.
Also as many of you may not have noticed Tony's wife
handled the waiver job at the gate for the ENTIRE event.
Unfortunately she was so isolated all day that I did not
get a chance to meet her. She even worked during fun
runs to satisfy the airport security folks.
Bryan Nemy had the motorhome on site before I even
arrived.
The setup crew was prompt, efficient, and speedy. They
had the course up and ready to run ahead of schedule.
From this point on we where ahead of the game.
Ed Rito, Don Ebaugh, Paul Morel, Durk Edwards, Arnold
Escano, Jerry Mouton, and Don Lew
Our safety people were out in force. Filling this role at
the event we had Stan Guidero, Noel Espero, MJ Dunlop,
and Bryan Nemy (there is that name again).
Due to all the efforts of these folks (and many others I
cannot name at the moment) everyone got 4 runs and
we had massive quantities of fun runs at the end of the day.
Special thanks to those that stayed for the super speedy
tear down.
And finally last but not least Rob and Chris Boynton. Rob
was so kind as to take me for a run in their phenomenal
Porsche GT2. What an amazing experience that I can only
describe as religious.
Now if you will all excuse me I need to find three more
day jobs so I can start saving for my own GT2...
Thanks and take care,
Matthew
