I couldn't agree more. Seeing one of us injured or worse by confrontation is
the LAST thing I want to see at any of our events. Everyone in our club is
passionate about keeping our sites and wants autocrossers to be represented
well. But you have to know when you're outnumbered and when it's not worth it.
People who are being aggressive and doing donuts might do that kind of thing
on a daily basis. Having someone running up to them screaming may look rather
threatening, and who knows what they've been smoking or what they are packing.
The problem of theft is an ugly one. I feel really bad for Kevin. As someone
pointed out to me, the paddock gets very empty in the afternoon, after reg has
closed, a lot of people have left, and the remaining groups are working or on
grid. These are the times of the highest risk. We could say we need someone
to man the waiver table at all times thru the afternoon, but I think this is
complicated because a)we have a hard enough time staffing that position thru
the morning and b)having one person there alone with no one else in site isn't
safe IMO. As always life is more valuable than property. That is not to say
we shouldn't think of solutions, just that we should all be careful and
vigilant of both property and health.
