if we cant get SCCA to change the DOT-R tire rule, then what you say is true.
otherwise hoosier will just remove the "DOT" from their tires, SCCA will
reclassify the types of tires allowed and nothing will change.
but i doubt SCCA, no matter how entrenched, will slit their own throat and
refuse the change the types of allowed tires. if so, there's always NASA.

James,
Your still orbiting. I made no implication that Kumho is
making money from people who drive "R" rated tires on the street. The truth is
just the opposite.
A 315/35-17 V700 for my car is about $160-$170 each. The street version of a
tire that size is approx. $400. Kumho is not making money on "R" rated tires.
If the law passed they would stop making them because they don't make money on
them and the Draconian legal implications of the DOT regs. would leave them
little choice.
As far as driving Kumho'e on the street, with their steel
belts you could probably drive a Kumho with no rubber on it across the
country. I know lots of people who use use Kumho's BECAUSE they can drive to
and from events safely even if they cord a tire. I did it for three years. A
Hoosier is a death trap on the street as is has no steel belts. You cord one
and you take your life in your hands driving home.
FWIW.

so you are saying that kumho is making most of their r-tire money from
people who drive them on the street? i doubt it.
i see the only problem is that the SCCA rules say "dot approved". this
would change to an inclusion list that lists, for example, the current hoosier
autox tire. same tire, just doesnt say DOT on it. i cant drive legally with
them on the street, but judging from the amount whining about my "drive to
event on raced tires" rule, no one does anyway.
