Elmo is very famous up in these parts. He's an upstanding member of my running
club, and I hope to one day be as fast as he. He also plays a lot locally, but
I haven't had a chance to see him yet. He plays a lot of Blue Grass.

"Dead Skunk" was sung by Louden Wainwright III (and covered by local couple
Elmo & Patsy) and regularly played by Gene Nelson on KSFO in the 70s. "

Thanks. I'd forgotten all that. But I was a regular listener of Gene Nelson
on KSFO in that time frame. (And of legendary Don Sherwood before him.
Sherwood's real name was Danny Cohelan but his son calls himself Greg
Sherwood and recently appeared on a KQED fund raiser.) The Don Sherwood of
Golf and Tennis World fame is really named Don Sherwood. That's when KSFO
was a Middle of the Road music station. After ABC bought it they converted
it into a radical ultra right-wing talk fest. I understand it has been a
financial success.
Can't recall ever hearing the Elmo and Patsy version but their "Grandma got
run over by a reindeer... " gets worked pretty heavily every Christmas
season.
