I've never played it myself, so I can't really comment. Even GT2 has
glaring faults in the driving engine (while on the subject of Laguna Seca -
can you take a stock AE86 Corolla GT-S on street tires around Laguna in
under 1:50? I thought not!). Anyway, generally you probably want to start
off with the spring and dampening rates proportionally in tune with the
weight distribution of the car. Although in my GT2 days I would sometimes
end up with some awful strange settings that somehow worked (likely again
the inadequacies of the physics engine showing through). From there, see
how the car feels to you and make adjustments accordingly. Note your lap
times with different setup parameters. Sometimes what feels best isn't
always the fastest setup.

I say, and a few listers will likely agree with me, that if you want a
realistic racing simulator, pick up Papyrus' Grand Prix Legends for PC. And
do try not to spin out more than 10 times on your first lap. ;-)

Emotion Type-S in which you can change thses settings. (Along with the
brakes and gear ratios). I am pretty lucky to have someone let me borrow
their Japanese PS2 while he is out of town.
