OK, here is what the 1993 Suburban owner's manual says in the trailer section:
=======
If you are towing a trailer that weighs more than 4,000 pounds (1800 kg), and
you have an automatic transmission with Overdrive, you may prefer to drive in D
instead of Overdrive (or as you need to, a lower gear).
=======
That's it, complete with "kg" instead of "Kg". No blue "vehicle damage
warning" about Overdrive.

In the automatic transmission section, it makes no mention of trailers under
"OD".  Under "D", it says:
======
Here are some times you might choose D instead of OD:
...
- When towing a trailer, so there is less shifting between gears.
...
======
Plenty of blue "vehicle damage warnings" in the automatic-transmission section,
but none about OD, D, or trailers.

The difference between Overdrive and Drive is all taken care of at the column
shifter. There are no lockout buttons or towing mode buttons.

So, I'm back to cruising in Overdrive unless it's hunting, in which case I
shift to D to make it stay in 3rd and stop hunting.
