No one disagrees that we should be trying to put the 32 "Fastest" drivers in
the Challenge. The question is how best to determine that. An Index is
flawed because it cannot possibly take into consideration course
dependencies, surface dependencies, weather, etc. Additionally, it is
statistically invalid given the limited amount of data from which it is
derived. The Pro Solo index is more "conjured up" than it is calculated.
That said, the current system has its own flaws with some continued
sandbagging in certain circumstances.
Personally, I still feel the current system is better than an Index. Yes,
sandbagging can happen to some degree, once in awhile. But its nowhere near
what it used to be.

PS: Put an Index in place and watch how fast I switch to an HS car. Or some
other slowish stock class like, say, GS. :-) In fact, STS might be even
better since it is rarely affected as negatively by things like weather,
surface issues, tight/fast courses, etc.

And if we are focused on the 'Challenge competition', then perhaps we
should find a way to get the 32 fastest drivers in the challenge, regardless
of class, and get rid of class differential as the basis for qualifying.
Take top 32 on index.
