i remember this was somewhat debated last time i was a part of this sport,
so let me ask here and see if it's been clarified any since i last was
involved :)

My Rx7 had 124,000 miles on it when the water seals blew. I had the
engine rebuilt, new turbos, a bunch of other stuff. the pre-cat on the
car (Rx7s have a pre-cat and a main cat, at least starting in 1986 i
believe.. my 88 had one too...) was very plugged, as they tend to get
after 124k. My mechanic put on a down-pipe to replace the precat, which
is a fairly common thing to do on these cars. Does this automatically
disqualify the car from "stock" even though it's still smog-legal in this
configuration? My mechanic is also recommending a new computer for the
thing, he says mine is running the car a bit too rich and it could use a
new one.. he wants to put in a 16-bit programmable FCON that can control
boost and stuff. IIRC that puts the car into *mod* since it alters the
boost... is that still the case?

Now, that said, i haven't raced in 9 years, i'm not going to be beating
anyone. Would people be upset if i ran in SS-Novice with this car (it has
street tires, stock size on stock rims) or should I just go with
ASP-Novice? even though i haven't done any suspension work.. i'm
concerned that there's no way to be competitive in ASP without doing a lot
more work to the car...
