Alan, the car has already been classed in E-Stock for the remainder of this
year and G-Stock next year. The car is no faster in a straight line than
the 99-00 Protege' ES that has only 120 hp since the 01 MP3/ES is heavier,
giving them the same power to weight ratio. Even as heavy as the MP3 is, it
seems to be way too strong a package for HS, imho. In fact, DS may be more
appropriate.
As you pointed out though, and Car and Driver and Road and Track have shown,
it is the handling of the car that makes it so good, and we all know that in
Solo II, handling is more important than horsepower.
The last point is the relatively small number of cars built. 1500 is still
more than the number of Type Rs that were available in the first TWO years
of the Type Rs production :)
