I suggest the creation of a new Chief Position for the Solo II Nationals,
Chief of News/National Disaster Announcements.
The current crew of announcers for the National Event had to take over this
position when it was suddenly created on Sept. 11, 2001. They were not
equipped to deal with it, they had no advance notice, or training in how to
handle this.
There have been some that have criticized them for how they handled this. Let
those people step up NOW to volunteer (email the national SCCA office
immediately) to be in this position for next year, because I am quite sure the
announcers do not ever want this duty again!
For God's sake, it was an autocross run that may have gotten messed up. So
you might have lost a National Championship? Well, at least you walked away
from that run. Many others in our country did not walk again that day!
The National Event this year was run under extreme pressure and everyone is to
be commended for their excellent job, including the excellent announcers who
had to go on after hearing devastating news and announce the time of your
silly ass run.
It's easy to criticize, but those critics should volunteer now, since they
think they could do it better.
In normal circumstances an event can use constructive criticism, but for this
event, it warrants only praise for those who had got it done!
