I'll throw my 2 cents in since I have driven both a 98 Neon ACR (3rd in 98,
6th in 99) and a Type R (1st in '00).
My Neon was probably better prepared than my Type R is, and I am still
convinced that my Type R *IS* faster than a Neon ACR. My Neon weighed ~2450
in race trim. My Type R is ~2500 in race trim. The Neon might be able to
pull out of a slow corner a bit better with the better low-end torque, but
that's only if you can keep the inside wheel from spinning. The LSD of the
Type R is worth a decent amount, IMHO. Now that the Type Rs have a couple
more years of development, I am certain that a Neon cannot catch an equally
driven Type R...too many things going against it.
Then again, I won't put money on my ability to beat Daddio if he comes back
in a Neon...I was never able to beat him even once! I *hate* that guy! :-)
Personally, I think the Neon vs. Celica GT battle would be a great one.
We've all seen in the past the incredible potential of the current and
previous generation Celicas (I'm always impressed with how fast Jeff
Cashmore can peddle a Celica around a course).
