Here in Maine we had several cars that just didn't fit well in the current
classing. We opened up street mod to the following:
Registered
Inspected (required in Maine...)
Insured
If you can legally driver it on the street, you can race it as long as it
has 4 wheels and working suspension. We get a wild twin turbo RX7 with 420
dynoed HP and 13 inch wildwood brakes, a VW golf with a very clean VR6
installed in it and have seen a Ford V* Volvo more than once.
It gives a truly streetable car somewhere to play besides in modified
classes. Why wait for the Scca to do something? Just understand that the
field is a bit too open for a national class, locally though go for it, the
more the merrier. (Besides if you are nice maybe you will be able to talk
him into a fun run...) My friends RX7TT is awesome on an autox course, the
brakes will make your eyes bleed!
Now why did I go out and buyan F440? Talk about a cheap adrenaline rush!
With my CS Fiero I was competitive in class and won fairly regularly. I've
just started with this old T-87 Red Devil and I've never had such a big
smile on my face. It's work to drive fast but it reacts very quickly.\
