Thankfully this was a Tour event where

All solo events should take into consideration that anyone who has a license
can show up. A preponderance does not help when one novice is driving. I
would consider that a certain percentage of drivers at any tour are less
than expert drivers.

I would suggest that this tendency to overdrive and catch up is always true
for people who are not leading. Even at a local event. You don't need a Tour
to experience this.

What if football had a totally different field every weekend? What if the
goalposts and yardage markers were always in different places? I don't agree
that a Tour or Nationals should be representative of what a number of people
do, if that was the point. Other than that point, I don't think I understand
the football analogy.
