The SCCA has come a long way since it's inception. I don't know how
many of you subscribe to Autoweek (should be nearly 100% :)), but
there was a great editorial by Leon Mandel in the 8/7 issue. He got
his hands on the original "articles of confederation" for the SCCA
from one of his friends who "also date from the Paleozoic". The dues
were $3 and under Article IV it talks about Dismissal from the club:
"Any member may be immediately dismissed from membership... by a
unanimous vote of the Officers for any of the following reasons:
1) Disposing of a sports car to a non-member without first advertising
the car for sale in a Club publication or notifying the officers at
least 10 days prior to the disposal of said car.
2) Breaking up a sports car or permitting the breaking up of a sports
car without the approval of the Officers.
3) Having the knowledge of the breaking up or possible (sic) breaking
up of a sports car or failing to notify an Officer within a reasonable
period of time.
4) Acquiring a sports car, or being instrumental in the acquisition of
a sports car by another person with the knowledge that another member
had been the first to state his intention to acquire said car had had
not been allowed 30 days after so stating his intention in which to
acquire said car.
5) Being obviosuly at fault in an accident which resulted in damage to
one or more members sports cars.
6) Voluntarily disposing of one's last remaing sports car."
My favorite of course is good old #5. It makes the PCA 13/13 rule seem
tame by comparison. But you have to rush out and buy your own copy if
you want to read the entire thing.
